The City District Government, Karachi, is going to start work on an underpass project near Gharibabad this week at a cost of Rs 135 million. The Gharibabad underpass when completed, would help in reducing long traffic jams in the area. The project includes service road, lighting, sewage system etc. The half km, 36 feet wide road would normally need one-year duration but the contractor has given eight months time.

CDGK's other various projects, including Rashid Minhas Road from Gulshan-e-Iqbal roundabout to Sohrab Goth Intersection will be completed by July 2005. About 30 percent work has been completed. The 36 feet wide and 2.4 km long portion would cost Rs 60 million, of which Rs 3 million has been spent.

Another Rs 56.56 million road project, 14 feet wide and 2.2 km long stretch from Nazimabad No 1 to Guru Mandir (including Recorder Road), is in progress and about 60 percent of the first segment has been completed. The whole project is expected to be completed till by February 17.
